Phoenix, AZ——The Arizona Diamondbacks unleashed an offensive barrage Monday night, overpowering the San Francisco Giants 12-2 behind a huge performance from Nolan Arenado and a dominant team effort at the plate.

Arizona wasted no time taking control, scoring early and often while piling up 16 hits to match a season high in runs scored. Every player in the Diamondbacks lineup recorded at least one hit in one of the club’s most complete offensive performances of the season.

Arenado provided the game’s biggest moment in the opening inning when he crushed the seventh grand slam of his career. With the bases loaded and the crowd energized, the veteran slugger launched a 403-foot drive into the left-field seats to immediately put Arizona firmly in command.

The Diamondbacks continued applying pressure throughout the night. Gabriel Moreno added a two-run homer during a five-run fifth inning that completely buried San Francisco’s hopes of mounting a comeback.

Rookie Ryan Waldschmidt paced the offense with three hits, including a pair of doubles, while Corbin Carroll added another dynamic performance that featured his fifth triple of the season.

Arizona’s attack started immediately against Giants starter Robbie Ray, as the first four batters of the game reached base before Arenado’s grand slam capped the explosive inning.

The Diamondbacks added two more runs in the second inning and another in the third before breaking the game open completely in the fifth. Moreno’s home run highlighted the rally, while Waldschmidt and Ketel Marte each drove in runs during the frame. Marte later scored on a defensive miscue to extend the lead even further.

Meanwhile, Arizona starter Zac Gallen delivered one of his sharper outings of the year. The right-hander worked six solid innings, allowing just four hits and two runs while striking out five batters. The victory improved Gallen to 2-4 on the season and marked his second quality start of the year.

San Francisco struggled to generate consistent offense outside of solo contributions from Willy Adames and Luiz Arraez. Adames connected on a solo homer in the second inning, while Arraez brought home a run with a sacrifice fly in the third.

Ray endured a difficult outing for the Giants, surrendering 10 runs — nine earned — across 4 1/3 innings while allowing 11 hits.

The series continues Tuesday with Landen Roupp expected to start for San Francisco against Arizona right-hander Ryne Nelson.
