College Park, Ga. — Angel Reese added another milestone to her remarkable rookie season Sunday, recording her 29th double-double to set a new WNBA single-season record as the Atlanta Dream defeated the Minnesota Lynx 89-81.

Reese finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds, moving past Alyssa Thomas, who recorded 28 double-doubles during the 2023 season. Reese had already established new league marks for total rebounds in a season and rebounds in a single game earlier this year.

Allisha Gray played a major role in Atlanta’s victory, knocking down six 3-pointers while totaling 23 points and 11 rebounds. The win gave the Dream a strong finish heading into the league’s break for the FIBA World Cup.

Atlanta improved to 26-14 and moved into a tie with Indiana for fourth place in the standings. Minnesota fell to 31-9 after having its eight-game winning streak on the road snapped. The Lynx remain atop the league but now hold a 2½-game advantage over the second-place Golden State Valkyries.

Jordin Canada contributed 16 points and 10 assists for Atlanta, while Rhyne Howard delivered a fourth-quarter surge. Howard scored 12 of her 16 points in the final period, helping the Dream withstand Minnesota’s late push.

DeWanna Bonner also made her Atlanta debut after signing with the Dream following her contract buyout with Phoenix earlier in the week. She scored seven points in 17 minutes.

Minnesota was paced by rookie Olivia Miles, who finished with 21 points. Kayla McBride and Napheesa Collier each scored 17, while Courtney Williams added 11 points in her return from a one-game absence caused by a sprained right foot.

Miles took a hard fall in the final minute while completing a driving layup.

The Lynx attempted to rally after trailing by double digits, putting together a 13-2 run that reduced Atlanta’s advantage to seven. Howard then answered with consecutive 3-pointers, despite missing her first five attempts from beyond the arc, restoring a 14-point Dream lead with 5:55 remaining.

The loss was Minnesota’s second in its last three games. The Lynx previously fell 80-66 at home to Golden State on Monday, ending a six-game winning streak. Minnesota has otherwise been dominant, suffering only three losses since its narrow 90-89 defeat to Connecticut on July 6.
