ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Milwaukee Brewers have reached a milestone that once seemed out of reach, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 on Wednesday night to win the first World Series championship in franchise history.

Milwaukee completed its championship run at Tropicana Field, turning years of anticipation into a celebration for the organization and its fans. With the victory, the Brewers finally secured the title that had eluded them throughout their major league history.

The Brewers entered the deciding game with a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-seven series. Tampa Bay had delayed Milwaukee’s celebration in Game 4, pulling out a 4-3 victory in 12 innings after scoring twice in the bottom of the final frame to avoid elimination.

That dramatic win gave the Rays another opportunity to fight for the championship, but Milwaukee answered with a composed performance to close out the series.

Jacob Misiorowski provided a major boost from the mound, limiting Tampa Bay to two hits across 5 2/3 scoreless innings. The right-hander’s outing ended when he experienced a cramp in his right calf, and he received a standing ovation from Brewers supporters as he exited.

Milwaukee also received an important contribution from rookie Cooper Pratt, who collected two hits and drove in two runs. Pratt continued his strong postseason showing by recording six consecutive hits, establishing a World Series record for rookies, before adding a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning.

Jackson Chourio made his own mark on the series, finishing with 11 hits across the five games. His total established a record for hits in a World Series decided in five games.

The championship represents a breakthrough for a franchise that had previously appeared in the Fall Classic only once. Milwaukee reached the World Series in 1982 but lost to the St. Louis Cardinals in seven games.

More than 40 years later, the Brewers have finally finished a championship run with a different result.

The organization’s major league history began in 1969, when the team played as the Seattle Pilots. The franchise relocated to Milwaukee in 1970 and gradually built a passionate fan base that continued to support the club through its pursuit of a World Series crown.

Wednesday’s victory gives those supporters a championship to celebrate and places the current Brewers team in the franchise’s history books.

Tampa Bay’s postseason journey ended in disappointment, although the Rays demonstrated considerable fight by extending the series in Game 4. Their extra-inning rally briefly renewed hopes of a comeback, but Milwaukee prevented another late escape.

With effective pitching, timely offensive production and contributions from players throughout the lineup, the Brewers secured the victory they needed.

Milwaukee can now celebrate a championship that represents the culmination of decades of effort. For the franchise and its fans, the 4-1 triumph over Tampa Bay is more than the end of a World Series — it is the beginning of a new era in Brewers history.
