Seattle, WA — The Chicago Bears delivered an impressive performance Monday night, defeating the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks 34-17 behind an efficient outing from quarterback Caleb Williams and an impactful debut from defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons.

Williams threw a touchdown pass on Chicago’s opening possession, finished with 247 passing yards and completed 71% of his attempts without committing a turnover. D’Andre Swift provided the finishing touch offensively, scoring three rushing touchdowns as the Bears improved to 6-2.

Simmons, acquired from Tennessee last week in a blockbuster trade that included two first-round draft picks, immediately made his presence felt. His performance helped transform a Chicago defense that needed a disruptive presence along the defensive front.

Simmons recorded a sack on Seattle’s opening possession, added another tackle for loss and finished with six tackles and a pass defensed. The Bears limited the Seahawks to 252 total yards and just one successful conversion on 11 third-down attempts.

For Seattle, the defeat dropped the Seahawks to 4-4 and marked their third loss in four games. The defending champions are facing increasing pressure to turn their season around as the NFC playoff race continues.

Quarterback Sam Darnold completed 17 of 34 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns, but his fourth-quarter interception proved costly. Chicago turned the takeaway into Swift’s third touchdown, putting the game out of reach with 4:41 remaining.

Seattle also struggled to establish its running game, managing only 81 rushing yards despite the recent acquisition of three-time All-Pro offensive guard Quenton Nelson and the return of Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price from injuries.

Chicago Establishes Control Early

The Bears came out aggressively against one of the league’s toughest defenses, putting together a 17-play opening drive. Williams capped the possession with a one-yard touchdown pass to Luther Burden, giving Chicago an early advantage.

The Bears continued to apply pressure throughout the first half, adding two field goals and taking a 20-9 lead into the third quarter.

Seattle’s offense struggled to find consistency against Simmons and the Chicago defensive front. Darnold finally created a big play late in the first half, connecting with Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 43-yard completion with 30 seconds remaining before halftime.

Chicago continued its efficient offensive approach after the break. Swift finished another scoring drive with a one-yard touchdown run, extending the Bears’ advantage to 20-9.

Seahawks Make a Late Push

Seattle appeared to have an opportunity to get back into the contest early in the fourth quarter, but Jason Myers had a 33-yard field-goal attempt blocked during the opening minute of the period.

The Seahawks caught a break on Chicago’s next possession when DeMarcus Lawrence forced a fumble by tight end Colston Loveland.

Seattle capitalized on the turnover, with Darnold connecting with Cooper Kupp for a seven-yard touchdown. The Seahawks successfully converted the two-point attempt, cutting Chicago’s advantage to 20-17 and giving the home crowd reason to believe a comeback was possible.

However, the Bears responded with another touchdown drive, refusing to let Seattle build on its momentum.

Darnold’s fourth-quarter interception provided Chicago with another opportunity, and Swift took advantage by scoring his third touchdown of the night. The score extended the Bears’ lead to 34-17 with 4:41 remaining and effectively sealed the victory.

Simmons Makes Immediate Impact

Simmons’ arrival could prove significant for a Chicago defense looking to become more consistent and physical. His ability to pressure the quarterback and disrupt opposing offenses was evident throughout Monday night’s performance.

The Bears held Seattle to 252 total yards, consistently forced difficult third-down situations and prevented the Seahawks from establishing a reliable rushing attack.

Williams also continued to demonstrate the efficiency and decision-making Chicago needs from its young quarterback. His 247 passing yards, one touchdown and zero turnovers provided the offensive foundation for the victory.

For Seattle, the loss ended a remarkable 30-game streak without a defeat by more than four points across the regular season and playoffs. It was the fourth-longest such streak by an NFL team during the Super Bowl era.

Injury Update

Seattle defensive lineman Leonard Williams left in the second half with a stinger and did not return.
