Washington, DC—–The Washington Commanders wrapped up an impressive 2024 season with a 12-5 record, securing second place in the NFC East and earning the sixth seed in the NFC playoff picture. Their postseason run ended in the NFC Championship, where they fell to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Looking to bolster their offensive line, Washington used the 29th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to select Oregon offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr. Despite several promising edge rushers still available, the Commanders prioritized protecting their quarterbacks by investing in Conerly, a 21-year-old standout.
Earlier in the offseason, Washington made a major move by trading multiple draft picks to the Houston Texans for veteran left tackle and five-time Pro Bowler Laremy Tunsil. With Tunsil solidifying the left side, Conerly is expected to begin his professional career on thed right side of the line.
Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 311 pounds, Conerly has been a model of consistency and growth throughout his college career. As a freshman in 2022, he saw action in all 13 games. He earned the starting left tackle job in 2023 and didn’t miss a start over the next two seasons.
His strong play earned him Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 recognition in 2023, and in 2024, he was honored as a third-team All-American and a first-team All-Big Ten selection. A Seattle native, Conerly brings both talent and durability to Washington’s revamped offensive line.
