Hughes Explodes for Five Points As Devils Dominate Capitals 7-3

Newark, NJ—-In Newark, the New Jersey Devils delivered a high-powered performance Thursday night, defeating the Washington Capitals 7-3 behind a dominant outing from Jack Hughes.

Hughes led the charge with a five-point night, scoring twice and adding three assists. His first goal came midway through the second period on a wrist shot set up by Jesper Bratt and Johnathan Kovacevic. He struck again early in the third period, finishing another wrist shot with help from Bratt and Connor Brown. The standout performance adds to Hughes’ strong season totals, now sitting at 24 goals and 44 assists.

Dawson Mercer also contributed two goals for New Jersey, while Bratt, Dougie Hamilton, and Cody Glass each found the back of the net.

Washington got goals from Tom Wilson, Pierre-Luc Dubois, and Cole Hutson, but couldn’t keep pace with the Devils’ offense.

In goal, Jake Allen made 29 saves to secure the win for New Jersey, while Logan Thompson stopped 23 shots for Washington.

Looking ahead, the Devils return home to face the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, while the Capitals will host the Buffalo Sabres.
