Foxborough, MA—The New England Revolution and New York City FC finished level at 1-1 on Sunday, with 30,055 supporters watching the Eastern Conference matchup at Gillette Stadium.
Dor Turgeman scored New England’s only goal of the afternoon, while Peyton Miller and Jack Harrison contributed assists. Harrison’s secondary assist marked his fifth in only four appearances with the Revolution, making him the fastest player in club history to reach five assists.
New England came out aggressively, with Miller causing problems for the NYCFC defense from the opening minutes. The Revolution nearly opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Alhassan Yusuf found Miller with a well-weighted through ball. Miller broke into the box before being taken down by a New York City defender, earning New England a penalty.
Carles Gil took the spot kick, but NYCFC goalkeeper Matt Freese denied the Revolution captain with a full-extension save. Gil had another chance on the rebound, but Freese again kept the ball out.
Miller came close to scoring shortly afterward. During a quick transition, Gil sent the winger through behind the NYCFC defense. Miller reached the ball before Freese and poked it beyond the goalkeeper, only for James Sands to clear the effort off the goal line.
New England finally broke through in the 36th minute. Harrison created space against two defenders before sending a cross toward the back post. Miller redirected the ball into the path of Turgeman, who calmly finished first-time with his left foot for his fifth goal of the season.
The assist was Miller’s third of the campaign and extended his recent run of attacking contributions. He has now registered assists in consecutive matches for the first time in his MLS career.
NYCFC responded just before halftime. James Sands headed home from a corner kick in first-half stoppage time, sending the teams into the break tied at 1-1.
The Revolution continued to search for a winner after halftime, with head coach Marko Mitrović turning to his bench. Judah Siqueira, Diego Fagundez, Wilson Harris and Cody Baker all entered the match as New England added fresh legs.
Siqueira, an Easton, Massachusetts native currently with Revolution II, played 26 minutes for his second consecutive MLS appearance.
Matt Turner also played a key role in keeping New England level. The Revolution goalkeeper made four saves, including stops in the 63rd and 66th minutes, as NYCFC threatened to take the lead.
New England nearly found the winning goal with five minutes remaining in regulation. Fagundez delivered a cross to the back post for Miller, who rose above his defender and headed the ball toward the near post. Freese once again made the crucial save, preserving the 1-1 scoreline through the final whistle.
The result moves New England’s home record to 8-2-2 through 12 matches at Gillette Stadium. The Revolution will now begin a four-game road trip when they visit Columbus Crew on Saturday, August 29. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field, with the match streaming on Apple TV in English and Spanish.
