Boston, MA—–The Buffalo Sabres are moving on—and making history in the process.
Buffalo defeated the Boston Bruins 4-1 in Game 6 on Friday night, clinching the series 4-2 and advancing to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since the 2006-07 season.
The Sabres wasted no time setting the tone. Alex Tuch and Mattias Samuelsson each found the back of the net in the opening period, giving Buffalo an early edge on the road. That momentum carried into the third period when Zach Benson added another goal to extend the lead and put the Bruins in a deeper hole.
Boston managed to get on the board thanks to David Pastrňák, but the comeback never materialized. Josh Norris sealed the outcome with an empty-net goal in the final moments.
In net, Alex Lyon delivered a steady performance, turning aside 25 shots to anchor Buffalo’s defensive effort. The Sabres’ structure and discipline frustrated Boston throughout the night, limiting quality chances and controlling the pace.
For Buffalo, the victory marks another step forward in a season defined by progress. After ending a lengthy playoff drought and capturing the Atlantic Division crown, the team has now taken a significant leap by advancing deeper into the postseason.
Head coach Lindy Ruff emphasized the importance of building on this momentum, noting the challenge of facing a proven opponent like Boston and praising his team’s resilience in closing out the series.
On the other side, Boston goaltender Jeremy Swayman made 22 saves, but the Bruins struggled to generate consistent offense against Buffalo’s aggressive and fast-paced style.
With the series win secured, the Sabres now await their next opponent, which will be determined by the deciding Game 7 between the Montreal Canadiens and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
For Buffalo, the message is clear: this run is far from over.
