Pittsburgh, PA——The New York Jets entered the 2026 National Football League Draft under pressure to jumpstart a rebuild after another difficult season—and they didn’t hold back.

Coming off a 3–14 campaign and carrying the league’s longest active playoff drought, New York aggressively attacked the first round, walking away with three impact players on both sides of the ball during a busy night in Pittsburgh.

Jets strike early with pass-rush help

With the No. 2 overall pick, the Jets selected David Bailey, a standout defensive end from Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Bailey, who recorded 14.5 sacks in his final collegiate season, brings size, explosiveness, and immediate production to a defense in need of a consistent pass-rushing presence. His arrival fills a major need and gives the Jets a cornerstone piece up front.

Shortly after being drafted, Bailey expressed confidence in the direction of the organization and made it clear he’s ready to contribute right away.

Offensive versatility added at No. 16

The Jets stayed aggressive with the No. 16 pick, selecting Kenyon Sadiq, a versatile tight end out of Oregon Ducks.

While many expected New York to target a wide receiver at that spot, the team instead opted for Sadiq, a dynamic 6-foot-3 playmaker who hauled in 51 receptions for 560 yards and eight touchdowns last season. His combination of size and speed gives the offense a matchup weapon and adds flexibility to the passing game.

Trade back into Round 1 for a playmaker

Not satisfied with two first-rounders, the Jets made another bold move—trading additional picks to the San Francisco 49ers to re-enter the first round at No. 30.

There, they selected Omar Cooper Jr., a wide receiver from Indiana Hoosiers and the top target of quarterback Fernando Mendoza last season.

Cooper adds explosiveness and playmaking ability to a receiving corps that needed another weapon, rounding out a strong offensive haul.

A pivotal draft for leadership

Head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey entered the draft facing mounting expectations. While their first year came with some patience, the urgency to produce results is now undeniable.

The team originally held nine picks, and their aggressive first-round strategy signals a clear commitment to accelerating the rebuild.

Big picture

In one night, the Jets addressed three major needs:

Pass rush (Bailey)

Offensive versatility (Sadiq)

Wide receiver playmaking (Cooper Jr.)

After years of falling short, New York is betting that this draft class can help turn the tide. If these selections deliver early impact, the Jets may finally have the foundation needed to climb out of their long postseason drought.
