Norman, OK—Mississippi State Bulldogs softball will have to fight through a winner-take-all Game 3 if they hope to secure the program’s first-ever trip to the Women’s College World Series after falling to Oklahoma Sooners softball 7-1 Saturday night in Norman.

After stunning the third-seeded Sooners in Game 1 of the NCAA Super Regional, Mississippi State entered Saturday with an opportunity to clinch the series and end Oklahoma’s remarkable postseason run. Instead, the defending powerhouse responded with a dominant performance at Love’s Field to force a decisive third game.

Oklahoma, seeking its 10th consecutive appearance in the Women’s College World Series, leaned heavily on sophomore pitcher Audrey Lowry, who bounced back in impressive fashion after struggling in Friday’s opener. Lowry controlled the game from the circle, tossing a complete-game effort while limiting the Bulldogs offense to five hits across seven innings.

The Sooners took control during a pivotal third inning when Mississippi State starter Peja Goold ran into trouble. Oklahoma exploded for five runs in the frame, highlighted by a momentum-shifting three-run home run from pinch-hitter Lexi McDaniel that energized the home crowd and gave the Sooners complete control of the game.

Mississippi State struggled to generate consistent offense throughout the night, with its only run coming in the sixth inning on a bases-loaded walk. The Bulldogs were unable to capitalize further as Lowry continued shutting down scoring opportunities the rest of the way.

Despite the loss, Mississippi State remains one win away from making program history. The Bulldogs now turn their attention to Sunday’s decisive Game 3, where a trip to the Women’s College World Series will be on the line.

Oklahoma, meanwhile, will attempt to continue one of college softball’s most dominant dynasties by extending its streak of WCWS appearances to 10 straight seasons.

The winner-take-all matchup is scheduled for May 24 at 1:30 p.m. CT and will air on ESPN.
