NEW YORK, NY — More than five decades of waiting finally came to an end as New York City erupted in celebration Thursday, honoring the NBA champion New York Knicks with a historic ticker-tape parade through Lower Manhattan’s famed Canyon of Heroes.

Fans packed the streets from Battery Park to City Hall, waving blue-and-orange flags, chanting “Let’s Go Knicks,” and celebrating the franchise’s first NBA championship since 1973. The parade marked one of the largest sports celebrations New York has witnessed in years, bringing together generations of Knicks fans who had waited a lifetime for this moment.

The festivities reached another level when hometown superstar Alicia Keys took the stage at City Hall and delivered a stirring performance of “Empire State of Mind,” the anthem that has become synonymous with New York pride. Thousands of fans sang along as Keys helped close out the celebration, creating one of the day’s most memorable moments.

The championship celebration attracted a star-studded crowd of celebrities, former players, elected officials, and devoted Knicks supporters. Among those in attendance were comedian and lifelong Knicks fan Tracy Morgan, Knicks legend Walt Frazier, Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, filmmaker and superfan Spike Lee, actress Mariska Hargitay, and hip-hop icon Fat Joe. Many of the celebrities rode on floats alongside current and former Knicks players while greeting fans throughout the parade route.

For Lee and millions of Knicks fans, the parade represented the culmination of years of loyalty, heartbreak, and unwavering belief in the franchise.

The atmosphere throughout Manhattan was electric.
