Charlotte, NC—Syracuse head coach Fran Brown and three of his players—quarterback Steve Angeli, linebacker Antoine Deslauriers, and two-way standout Demetres Samuel Jr.—highlighted culture, faith, and leadership as the driving forces behind the Orange heading into the 2026 season.

Brown opened the event by thanking the program’s supporters and emphasizing player commitment, saying “Most important, we can’t forget, thankful for the players. Without them there wouldn’t be football.” He reiterated that Syracuse’s identity is shaped collectively, noting “Our culture is set by the followers.”

Faith and personal growth were recurring themes. Brown described becoming more intentional spiritually, explaining that adversity has strengthened both him and the team. He also stressed fairness and individualized coaching: “Everybody is treated fair but not the same.”

Quarterback Steve Angeli, returning from an Achilles injury, confirmed he is fully healthy: “I’m 100% now.” Angeli said the injury forced him to become a more vocal leader and credited Brown for keeping him mentally connected to the team throughout rehab.

Linebacker Antoine Deslauriers said his decision to stay at Syracuse was rooted in loyalty and fit: “It’s everything that didn’t make me want to leave.” He praised new defensive coordinator V.K. for bringing “a new wave of energy” and strong teaching.

Demetres Samuel Jr. emphasized the importance of relationships with coaches, saying “Nine times out of ten you’re seeing your coaches more than your family.” He expects the defense to be more aggressive under V.K., describing the unit’s mindset as “really just hunting the ball.”

Across all interviews, Syracuse’s message was consistent: a program built on connection, accountability, and purpose—one they believe will translate into on-field success this fall.
